About the Event

 This major international sports event held every four years, bringing together teams from countries across the Commonwealth. Since its inception in 1930, the Games have been consistently staged, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 due to World War II.

Initially called the  until 1950, the event was later renamed as countries gained independence, welcoming athletes from all Commonwealth nations. Australia holds the record for hosting the Games most frequently, having done so five times.

Known for their inclusivity, the Commonwealth Games are unique in integrating athletes with disabilities into national teams, with their medals contributing to the overall tally. It is also the first global sports event to feature an equal number of men’s and women’s events.
