IHF Trophy Oceania throws off in Tahiti with six youth teams and four junior teams

The men's youth (Under-18) and junior (Under-20) competitions of the IHF Trophy Oceania will be staged in Tahiti from 16 to 20 December 2024.

The event serves as qualification event for the Intercontinental Phase of the IHF Trophy. 

Six youth teams and four junior teams will compete for the coveted trophies in the five days of competitions which will take place in the Hubert Langy Sports Hall in Papeete, Tahiti.

In the youth (Under-18) competition, the six teams will be divided into two groups of three teams each. In Group A, New Zealand will face New Caledonia and the American Samoa, while in Group B, Tahiti, Australia and the Cook Islands will battle for the first spot.

After the preliminary round is completed, the first two teams in each group will head to the semi-finals, with the winner of each group facing the second-placed side in the other group.

The winners of the semi-finals will head to the big final, which is due to be played on 20 December.

In the junior (Under-20) competition, the four participating teams are reigning champions Australia, New Caledonia, New Zealand and Tahiti. The first three days of competition will see the teams play in a round-robin format, with the top two sides then qualifying for the big final, which is due to be staged on 20 December.
